The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources through GAMA Sanitation and Water Project has promoted the bio-digester toilet technology and provided over 520,000 people with access to bio-digester household toilets in Accra and Kumasi from 2015 to date.
The high demand for the bio-digester technology across the country has resulted in the proliferation of sub-standard construction of the biodigester toilets, which has created the urgent need for its standardization to ensure that the environment is protected against the discharge of untreated fecal matter.
Thus, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources seeks to regulate the construction and installation of bio-digester toilets in Ghana to safeguard any reversal of gains made. Especially when other development partners and key organizations in the sanitation landscape within the country are supporting or directly installing biodigester toilets in the various regions beyond Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.
Therefore, the Project Coordinating Unit(PCU) upon receiving another request for training selected students at the Ada College of Education, initiated a process to discuss the expectations of the college and other possible areas of collaboration. After several discussions, it was concluded that aside from the training of the students, a training center should be established at the Ada College of Education to provide training on bio-digester construction and installation.
